Open Enrollment

Spaces in some grades still remain open, but you should apply quickly to have the best chance of getting a seat. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until full. We have lots of great things planned for your child. Come visit us and see!

What you will need to register

The following guidelines will help make your registration quick and easy.


Start by collecting your child's information noted below. After you are advised that a seat is available, prepare these documents for upload or bring them to the school office.


  • Student's birth certificate
  • Proof of residency (utility bill)
  • Proof of guardianship (driver's license or court documents)
  • Student's vaccination records


Registration is not finalized and your seat offer is not locked in until all the required student documents are received by the school.

  • Create Account

    Create an account. This should take less than 10 minutes. You will receive an email confirmation once your account is set up.

  • Fill Out Applicaiton

    Complete the guided step-by-step online application. You can save an application in process, then return later to complete. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Don't worry, we'll send you reminders.

  • Application Processing

    Applications are reviewed by the enrollment team on a first-come, first-served basis. After the open enrollment period closes, seats will be filled as new applications are received until we reach capacity.

Enrollment FAQs

  • How do I apply to Hennepin Schools?

    The application process is quick and easy. Begin by creating an account. Then complete the step-by-step application. Submit the required student information online, in person, or by mail. You will be notified through your account as to whether your application has been accepted.

  • Do you have a lottery?

    All applications received during the open enrollment period are automatically accepted for enrollment (i.e. admitted) unless we receive more applications than the available seats. In this situation, all applications are placed in the lottery and drawn at random until seats are filled. Students who are not offered a seat from the lottery drawing are placed on a waitlist and notified if any seats become available.

  • Does my child get a preference if their sibling attends the school?

    Yes. Siblings of currently admitted students, foster children of parents of currently admitted students, and children of staff employed in the school receive preference in the admission process.


  • May I apply after the open enrollment period ends?

    Yes! You may apply at any time. Applications received after the open enrollment period expires are automatically admitted in the order applications are received as long as there is a seat available. If, or once, there is no available enrollment in any grade, additional applications are added to the waiting list for each grade in the order received.

  • How will I know if my child has been accepted?

    You will receive communication from the school through the account that you set up here. 

  • Is there any cost for applying to Hennepin Schools?

    Applying is free. Because we believe in removing barriers to quality education, we provide instruction and education at no cost to students and families.

  • Is there a dress code at HS?

    Yes. Our students are proud to wear the HS uniforms at school.

  • I applied for my child in a previous year, but was put on a waitlist. Must I submit a new application for this year?

    Waitlist positions do not carry over from previous lotteries. You must submit a new application each year for each child.
